What is a digipak?

A digipak is laid out to make the CD more eye-catching and interesting. Digipaks usually give a flavour and insight into the musician and their genre of music. In keeping with their genre Artists/Bands tend to use a reccuring theme throughout and also display their identity. They can also hold additional promotions in the sleeves e.g booklets and posters. They are normally made of card instead of the normal plastic CD album cases. Digipaks are quite popular among fans as they include additional features rather than just the CD on its own.

Examples of Digipaks with genres like George Ezra..

This is Tom Odell's digipak for his album 'Long Way Down'.

His tracks are shown down the right hand side of the back of his album, this list format is a typical convention of a digipak. The browns and greens mimic the folk style in the way that it includes natural 'autumnal' colours. The image of Tom Odell is the central focus. The dark CD is contrasted by the white writing, this is the same as George Ezra's 'Budapest' Album.

This is James Bays Digipak for 'Chaos and the Calm'. As you can see there are various images of James in his digipak, this is a typical convention. Additionally James has his logo of a hat in white contrast against the black background. The colours, are similar to Tom Odells and typical of the folk genre. Similarly James includes a scene of natural images.
