Controversial Music Videos

The bigger the better. Artists today want to make their videos known and to do so do anything in their power to get people talking about them. This frequently results in something controversial happening.

Rihanna - S&M

In 2010 Rhianna released her single S&M. The video was seen as inappropirate, age censored on youtube and banned in 11 countries. As you can imagine graphic imagery of sexual behaviour and toys are shown in the video. The director of the video Melina Matsoukas spoke out to MTV saying "So when you do something that’s provocative, that’s usually a repercussion. It’s gonna be talked about or banned or slandered in some way. But it’s making an effect and people are having a dialogue about it, so, to me, that’s successful.”

Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball
Since her breakup with Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus has been in the public eye for the wrong reasons. Her video Wrecking Ball raised eyebrows in 2013 as her naked body is shown swinging on a giant boulder. This video was completely controversial as she has been the idol for so many young girls since her role in 'Hannah Montana'

Robin Thicke ft. TI, Pharrell - Blurred Lines
In 2013, this video was possibly one of the most talked about videos. Despite its catchy tune its innappropirate video is one of the worst displayed, for its main purpose of objectifying women.
